This can save thousands of dollars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"13\">Pre-treatment reduces the volume of medical waste that is sent to landfills as non-infectious waste or decontaminated waste. It also has implementation plans for hospitals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"33\">The EPA provides guidelines on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/stationary-sources-air-pollution\/hospital-medical-and-infectious-waste-incinerators-hmiwi-new-source\"><u>emissions standards<\/u><\/a>\u00a0and hazardous waste incinerators.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"34\">The EPA has recommended a cradle to grave system for hazardous waste management, from the point where it is generated to its final disposal or dispensation.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"35\">This cycle covers not only the segregation and transportation of hazardous waste but also treatment, disposal, and recycling options.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"36\">What about the clinical waste?<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"37\">Many healthcare professionals use the term clinical waste, but are surprised to learn that it has no specific meaning.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"38\">Clinical waste is not interchangeable with regulated medical waste.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"39\">It is often used colloquially to describe any waste that comes from a medical setting. However, the term clinical waste does not appear in the United States&#8217; standard waste management vocabulary.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"40\">Generators to Blame for Cradle to Grave Approach<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"41\">Hazardous waste generators are subject to specific regulations.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"42\">There are industry specific details on very small quantity genertos (VSQs), Small Quantity Generators (SQGs), or Large Quantity generators.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"43\">These regulations are not only a matter for ethical and moral responsibility, but they are also law!<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"44\">The penalties for non-compliance are severe.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"45\">According to the EPA for example, a small-quantity generator must comply not only with hazardous waste manifest requirements but also manage their hazardous waste containers or tanks based on 40 CFR SS262.16 b)(2)(3).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"46\">Some exceptions apply.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"47\">The volume of hazardous waste that can be accumulated by a large quantity generator is not limited, but must be managed according to 40 CFR SS262.17(a)(1)-(4).<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"48\">The hazardous waste manifest and land disposal restrictions also apply.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"49\">\u0627\u0644\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/rcra\"><u>Resource Conservation and Recovery Act<\/u><\/a>\u00a0is a federal program that all states must comply with.
